Project Description
Minuteman is proposing a 12.5 MW wind project on West Hill in the Town of Savoy, Massachusetts. West Hill has a peak elevation of 614 meters and runs predominantly north and south.
Minuteman has engaged Epsilon Associates Inc., based in Maynard, Massachusetts, to conduct assessments of the environmental impact of the Project. Minuteman is committed to work collaboratively with the Town of Savoy and all other stakeholders to address their interests and make the proposed Project a success.
Part of the project cost includes a reserve fund for decommissioning and removing the wind turbines once the project has reached the end of its useful life.
Layout
As currently configured, the project will consist of five 2.5 MW wind turbines and will produce approximately 30,000 MWh of electricity per year. The turbines would be placed in a line northeast to southwest along the ridge of West Hill. Access to the site will be from Harwood Road on the north side of the site.
Wind Resource
A meteorological tower has been operating on the project site since December 2003. Preliminary evaluations indicate an adequate wind resource at the site for a commercial generation project.
Access
Access to the site will from Harwood Road on the north side of the site. Minuteman is leasing the site from Harold (“Butch”) and Diane Malloy. The 290 acre site contains mixed hardwoods and softwoods and is logged commercially by Mr. Malloy.
